Get off social media; use that time you’d spend doom scrolling instead reading, playing a game, touching grass. You don’t deal with the brain rot, echo chambers, nor the half-truths and/or blatant lies being peddled.
You get to escape into a new and fantastic world. Elves, romance, adventure. You meet new and interesting characters and follow along in their stories.
There are numerous skills to be learned. Everything from practical skills like money management to less practical skills such as archery. Find your passion and chase it; don’t do it for the money, that will come.
Don’t do anything solely to win. When you do that, you kneecap yourself. You must accept that when you start, you will suck, and you will fail. Familiar with the saying “practice makes perfect?” That’s why.
You may find you have an aptitude for a given skill. Nurture it, work it. Just like exercise and diet, change and improvement won’t come without time, patience, and dedication.
Hone your skills daily. Like your body, your mind atrophies during periods of non-use. If you want to learn an instrument, practice daily. If you want to write, write daily.
Don’t focus solely on theory. That will get you nowhere fast. Sure, it can help you understand what you’re trying to learn. On the opposite of that, don’t focus entirely on the physical aspect either. If you don’t understand why you’re doing what you are, it will lose its appeal.
Note that it’s also okay to quit. If you think you may be interested in something and then decide that it isn’t for you, it’s okay to stop. These things happen.
